Crown Shading Company: Crafting Quality Window Solutions

Crown Shade Co. was founded by Milton & Marilyn Grodnitzky, the parents of the current President, Steven Grodnitzky, in the mid-1950s. Their humble beginnings in the basement of Grody’s Department Store, a small independent retailer in Baltimore City, Maryland, marked the birth of a legacy in window solutions. Initially, the company focused on supplying vinyl and paper window shades to local merchants in Baltimore City.

One distinctive aspect that sets Crown Shade Co. apart is its status as one of the few manufacturers of wood spring rollers in North America. To enhance cost-efficiency and maintain quality, Crown now undertakes the entire process, from doweling to sanding, for its rollers.

In January of 2005, the third generation entered the business when Steve's son, Jared, joined after graduating from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and gaining valuable experience as an industrial designer in Pennsylvania. Jared took the helm of Sales & Marketing for the company, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the table.

By 2006, Crown Shade Co. had successfully integrated Somfy motorized components into its ever-expanding roller shade lineup. In a matter of years, these components paved the way for an impressive range of tension skylight shading systems and exterior shading products, further enriching the company's offerings.
